Are you wondering how to calculate how much nicotine is in your e-liquid? Maybe you are buying a shortfill bottle of e-juice and need to know how many nic shots to buy? Read on for the advice you require.
Calculating your nicotine needs
If you’re buying a nicotine e-liquid that’s already been prepared for you, you will know how much nicotine it has in it due to the information on the bottle or the website you found it on. However, it’s increasingly common for people to get around legislation by purchasing shortfill bottles which they can then add nicotine to. Many people have been doing this since bottles over 10ml including nicotine were banned from being sold in the UK. By carrying out a few simple calculations, you can work out how many nicotine or nic shots you need to add to your nic-free shortfill bottle.
What are shortfill bottles?
Shortfill bottles are large bottles of nicotine-free liquid that have enough space for you to add nic shots to them. Nic shots are small bottles of liquid with high levels of nicotine. It’s possible to buy a 100ml bottle of nic-free liquid with enough space for 20ml of nic shots, 50ml of nic-free juice with 10ml of spare capacity and so on. Nicotine shots are flavourless 10ml bottles with pure nicotine which you can normally buy with 15mg, 18mg or 20mg of the substance.
How strong will my liquid be once I have added my nic shots?
The nicotine strength of your liquid will depend on factors such as how much nic-free juice you are using and the strength of the shots you’re putting into your shortfill bottles. If you add an 18mg nic shot to a 50ml bottle of nic-free liquid, you’ll have 60ml of 3mg juice as the nic-free juice will dilute the nicotine shot.
How can I add my nic shots?
You can add your nic shots by unscrewing the lid of the short fill bottle and pouring them in. Once you have done this, you will need to shake the bottle before leaving it to settle for around ten minutes. It should then be ready to vape.
What if I want a stronger e-liquid?
Many people boost the nicotine strength of their e-liquid by adding two shots of nicotine. If you have 50ml of nic-free liquid and require a nicotine strength of 6mg, you can add two 18mg shots to it. However, you will need to pour out some of your nic-free liquid to accommodate the second shot.
How many shots can I add to 50ml of juice?
The more shots you add, the stronger your juice will be. However, it’s not recommended that you add more than two shots as you could put yourself at risk of a nicotine overdose. The more nic-free juice you pour away, the more flavour you will lose. Consume too much nicotine and you could start feeling sick and dizzy.
